Animation Showcase Lineup Announced

The Midwest Independent Film Festival presents its first ever Animation Showcase at Landmark's Century Centre Cinema on Tuesday, May 2nd, with festivities beginning at 6 p.m. Here is the lineup for the Midwest Independent Film Festival’s inaugural Animation Showcase:

WHERE IT FLOODS (click here for the trailer!) Calvin and his family try to maintain their farm and survive in a flooded midwestern landscape despite the fact that (mostly) everyone else seems to have moved on to somewhere safer. Directed by Joel Benjamin. World Premiere.

DIE FLUCHT (click here for the trailer!) Winner, Student Academy Award 2016. DIE FLUCHT follows the story of a lonely figurine, traveling on a fixed track, trying to catch a red balloon. When the machine breaks down, the boy comes to life, and attempts to finish the cycle he was originally destined to be on forever. Directed by Illinois filmmaker Carter Boyce. Chicago Premiere.

RESUSCITATION. From Milwaukee filmmaker Hannah Raye White comes a narrative that imagines itself as a living house. The act of becoming is never as expected, but it is fundamental to the experience of being. World Premiere.

CHICAGOLAND. This film follows a lone urban coyote in search of sustenance for herself and her pups while navigating the perils of the Chicago landscape, both man-made and natural. Directed by Ben Kaufmann for Manual Cinema. Festival Premiere.

OPEN CARRY, USA. This animated musical from Chicago filmmaker Ron Fleischer features a town whose inhabitants serve as a microcosm of what’s screwed up regarding our laws and current zeitgeist. Winner, International Music Video Underground Film Festival. Official Selection, 41st Cleveland International Film Festival. Chicago Premiere.

MCTUCKY FRIED HIGH. This animated comedy from Robert Carnilius follows an ensemble of teen foods who navigate sexuality, gender identity and high school politics. Festival Premiere.

MUTANT GLOVES. From Chicago based animator, puppet-maker and filmmaker Matt Marsden. Festival Premiere.

DEAD MOON WALKING. Comedic super-shorts from Minneapolis design studio MAKE. Chicago Premiere.

SINGING SO SWEETLY. Music video directed and animated by Anne Beal for Arc Iris. Official Selection, ANNECY International Animated Film Festival.

GLOOMY SUNDAY. In a world of broken dreams, there is always hope. Stop-motion animation from director Julian Grant. Official Selection, Kinosommer Villach (Germany), Paura Festival International de Cine de Terror (Spain).

ONE MORE. Music video directed and animated by Minnesota filmmaker Caleb Wood for singer/songwriter Dana Williams. Festival Premiere.

THE SALT. Music video directed and animated by Chicago filmmaker Drew Dir for Prairie Empire. Festival Premiere.
