Michael Keaton directorial debut The Merry Gentleman finally arrives in Chicago!

Q&A with executive producers Paul Duggan and Tom Bastounes, writer Ron Lazzeretti

Chicago, IL – Michael Keaton’s highly anticipated directorial debut The Merry Gentleman will finally surface in Chicago at The Midwest Independent Film Festival on Tuesday, April 7th.  The Sundance selection also stars Keaton, Kelly Macdonald (No Country for Old Men, Trainspotting) and a talented Chicago cast led by Tom Bastounes, who is also executive producing the film.  The First Tuesday festivities begin at 6 p.m. at Landmark's Century Centre Cinema, 2828 North Clark, on Tuesday, April 7th.  A question-and-answer session with Bastounes, executive producer Paul Duggan, producer Steve Jones and writer Ron Lazzeretti follows the screening.

Film Synopsis:  A delicacy of tone transforms Michael Keaton’s The Merry Gentleman from what might have been a pedestrian tale into a beautifully romantic fable. Directed, photographed, and performed with a precision and style that mark a distinctive directorial debut, the film begins with a woman (Kelly Macdonald) who leaves an abusive relationship to begin a new life in a new city, where she forms an unlikely and ironic relationship with a suicidal hit man (unbeknownst to her). Enter a worn, alcoholic detective (Tom Bastounes) to form the third party in a very unusual triangle, and this dark, soulful, sometimes-funny story begins to unfold.  Directed by and starring Michael Keaton, written by Ron Lazzeretti, executive produced by Paul Duggan and Tom Bastounes, produced by Steve Jones.   Official Selection, Sundance Film Festival.
