Documentary Shorts Program at the Landmark Tuesday, March 4th

Award winners and world premieres highlight program


Chicago, IL - The Midwest Independent Film Festival will present its Documentary Shorts Program on Tuesday, March 4th at Landmark Century Centre Cinema.  This impressive lineup features world premiere screenings and award-winning films covering a diverse range of topics.  Filmmakers Ernie Park, Mike Graziano, Scott Smith and Jenifer Evans Carnow are scheduled to attend.

 

Screening Information: Tuesday, March 4, 2008 -- screening begins with a Pre-Show Cocktail Reception (sponsored by GUINNESS Draught) at Landmark Century Centre Cinema (2828 North Clark) at 6 p.m.  There will be a reading of Scott Smith’s new screenplay MEETING BILLIE STEIN at 6:30 p.m. in the theatre.  The filmmakers will be in attendance as the Documentary Shorts Program begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. A post-screening reception will be held immediately following the film at Cousin's (2833 North Broadway). WORLD PREMIERE!  YOUNG ARABS.  Muslim and Christian boys attending an elite preparatory school in the heart of Cairo offer thoughts on God, America, terrorism, marriage, pop culture, the Middle East, and more.  From Chicago filmmakers Ernie Park and Mike Graziano of Uji Films.

 

WORLD PREMIERE!  THE WANDERING WOMBS.  An insightful, often humorous look at the rising number of married couples deciding against bearing children.  Directed by Jenifer Evans Carnow.

 

ULBERT.  Winner, Best Documentary Short, IFP Flyover Zone, Lake County and Magnolia Film Festivals.  The third time Joseph Ulbert experienced a full-blown manic episode he knew a major life change had to be made. Sobriety, family and escape through painting have helped Joe cope with a manic current that is always there. Ulbert is a documentary that tells the story of Joe Ulbert’s fight with Bipolar Disorder.  Directed by Declan Ryan.

 

RIDE OF THE MERGANSERS.  This wildlife documentary film’s decorated film festival tour has included Slamdance, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and the AFI Festival.  The short has garnered more than twenty awards, most recently being named the Chicago Short Film Brigade’s Best of 2007.  From Minnesota filmmaker Steve Furman.

 

WAITING ON GOD.  On October 30, 1940, God personally presented E.E. Mallet with a

proposal: 'Spread the word of The Lord, and I will provide you with enough money to save the world.' He has dedicated his life to saving the world from evil through God ever since. 67 years later, Reverend Mallett is still waiting for God to keep his end of the bargain.  Directed by Scott Smith of Element 79.
