Man Who Invented the Moon Leads Comedic Shorts Program Tuesday, May 2nd

 

The Chicago Premiere of the hilariously original short film, The Man Who Invented the Moon, headlines a comedy-laden Midwest Shorts Program as the Midwest Independent Film Festival (www.midwestfilm.com) presents the fourth installment of its 2006 season.  Director John Cabrera (currently a regular on Gilmore Girls) and writer Lee Kirk, both of whom are graduates of The Theatre School at DePaul University, will be in attendance to present their film and field questions from the audience.

 

The Midwest Shorts Program will include Steve Delahoyde’s My Routine as well as the premieres of Larry Ziegelman’s Coffee Break and Corduroy from Indiana filmmaker Dave Kendall; all filmmakers will be in attendance.  The program will begin with a couple of featured shorts from The 22nd Annual Chicago Latino Film Festival, La Flor Naranja (Orange Blossom) from Xochitl Dorsey and Por Amor Out of Love) from Chicago filmmaker Ben-Hur Uribe. 

 

As if the night wasn’t loaded enough, Chicago Scriptworks will be presenting staged readings of two local screenplays during our Pre-Show Social from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  Be sure to arrive early to enjoy readings of Miracle Moderna and Ideas for Enjoyable Things to Do from Chicago playwrights Andrea Klunder and Sean Fitzpatrick, respectively.      

 

On Tuesday, May 2nd, the Pre-Show Social, sponsored by Goose Island Brewing Company and Wineshippers, begins at the Landmark Theater, 2828 North Clark, at 6 p.m.  Chicago Scriptworks will present their screenplay readings at 6:30 p.m. in the theater.  Then join host Mike McNamara as our program begins promptly at 7:30 pm.  Projection services are provided by sponsors Resolution Digital Studios, Mimi Productions, Panasonic and Zacuto Rentals.  Post-screening reception will be held at Sausalito, 543 West Diversey. Presenting this month's lineup for The Midwest Independent Film Festival…

 

CHICAGO PREMIERE: THE MAN WHO INVENTED THE MOON.  A lonely young man (Sean Gunn, Gilmore Girls) lives quietly in a fantasy world inhabited by the imaginary playmates he created to keep himself company. An unforeseen tragedy forces the man, and his unusual friends, to deal more directly with the real world.   Directed by John Cabrera, Executive Produced by Brian Gunn, James Gunn, and Sean Gunn.  29 minutes.

 

FESTIVAL PREMIERE: COFFEE BREAK.  Two old high school classmates discover they work together on their coffee break.  Directed by Larry Ziegelman.  4 minutes.

CHICAGO PREMIERE: CORDUROY.  A lonely young man encounters a pair of pants from his past and begins a torrid love affair. He soon discovers however, that love is more complicated than just getting into a pair of pants.  Written and directed by Indiana filmmakers Bryan Rafael Falcon and David Kendall.  15 minutes.

MY ROUTINE: PART I & II.  Two hilarious shorts from Chicago filmmaker Steve Delahoyde.  3 minutes.

 

LAZY MUNCIE.  Straight Outta Muncie (Indiana), this is the Midwest response to "Lazy Sunday."  From Indiana filmmakers Chris Cox and Kirby Heyborne. 4 minutes.

 

NEXT MONTH!  On Tuesday, June 6th, The Midwest Independent Film Festival will be presenting the Midwest Premiere of the dramatic feature, Repetition.  Director Zachary Zises as well as representative cast and crew will be in attendance.  Also, Zacuto Rentals will be hosting a pre-show demonstration of the new Panasonic HVX 200 HD Camera, provide cinematographers and filmmakers a unique opportunity to see footage from the camera as well as get a hands-on look at the camera that will change independent film as we know it.  See you at the Landmark!
