Award-Winning The Divine, Jeff Farnsworth Premiere

Tuesday, October 4th at The Midwest Independent Film Festival 

 

The Midwest premieres of award-winning films The Divine and Jeff Farnsworth headline another outstanding program as the Midwest Independent Film Festival presents the fifth installment of its 2005 season.  On Tuesday, October 4th at 6 p.m. the festivities will be hosted by Chicago's beautiful Landmark Century Centre Cinema, 2828 North Clark.  Both filmmakers will be in attendance to present their work and field questions from the audience.

 

The Divine is a film by Ohio native Tim Hoover and the 2005 winner of the Audience Favorite and Best Short Film Awards at the Damah Film Festival.  According to Terence Berry, Executive Director of The Damah Film Festival, "Tim Hoover's The Divine is everything a short film should be. Shot in such a hauntingly beautiful style and perfectly paced, it captures you from the beginning to the end." 

 

Jeff Farnsworth was written by Bruce Terris (Flying, Project Greenlight, Stolen Summer) and directed by Paul Cotter.  The film was a finalist in the Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival, won Best Film at the Seattle One Reel Film Festival and was accepted into the Berlin International Short Film Festival.  Though fully produced in Chicago, Farnsworth has yet to screen in the Midwest.  MWFF is honored to host the Midwest Premiere of this award-winning film.

 

On Tuesday, October 4th, the pre-show reception begins at the Landmark Theater, 2828 North Clark, at 6 pm.  Then join co-founders Mike McNamara and Michael Kwielford as our program begins promptly at 7:30 pm.  High definition projection is made possible by sponsors Resolution Digital Studios, Fletcher Chicago and Chicago HD.  The post-screening reception will be held at Sausalito, 543 West Diversey, www.sausalitorestaurant.com.

MIDWEST PREMIERE: THE DIVINE.  A film by Tim Hoover, The Divine is a touching and spiritual journey into the life of a deformed eighteen-year-old kid who is left to care for his terminally ill mother.  Hal Conklin of cinemainfocus.com comments, "Developed with a pacing and movement that is both authentic and unexpected, this award-winning short film … gives us a hope that affirms both the beauty and the tragedy of life."  At the Damah Film Festival 2005 The Divine won Best Picture (30-minute category) and the Audience Favorite Award.

 

MIDWEST PREMIERE: JEFF FARNSWORTH.  They say nothing in this world takes the place of persistence.
Ross is in the wrong job. He's a middle class kid trying to be a bouncer at a nightclub. The harder he tries to succeed, the harder his struggle becomes. Can persistence succeed where aptitude fails?  Drawing from personal experience of an unsuccessful stint as a barman, Paul Cotter's black comedy tries to answer the question, "Can persistence succeed where aptitude fails?" Heroic wisdom suggests it can. But what does life say?  Jeff Farnsworth is Paul Cotter's independent film debut.

 

A SERIES OF SMALL THINGS.  "Sometimes when you look for the truth you find yourself instead."  Directed by Chicago native Phil Donlon, featuring Doug Jones (Hellboy), edited by Steve Ordower and filmed by Jim Andre.  Haunted by a gruesome memory from his childhood, Adam is given the chance to confront his past and reconnect with life.  Series was an Official Selection of Methodfest was nominated for Best of Show and Best Picture Under 30 Minutes at Michael Medved's Damah Film Festival and was recently accepted into the Palm Springs International.

 

NEXT MONTH!  On Tuesday, November 1st, we will be presenting the Chicago Premiere of The Godfather of Green Bay, a hilarious feature starring Lauren Holly (Any Given Sunday), Tony Goldwyn (The Last Samurai, Ghost) and Tom Lennon (Reno 911, The State).
