The World Premiere of Following Paula
The world premiere of Following Paula headlines another outstanding program as the Midwest Independent Film Festival presents the fifth installment of its 2005 season. On Tuesday, September 13th at 6 p.m. the festivities will be hosted by Chicago’s beautiful Landmark Century Centre Cinema, 2828 North Clark.
Following Paula is a gripping urban drama directed by Ed Italo featuring talented Chicago native Justina Machado (Six Feet Under, Full Frontal, Torque). The evening’s lineup also includes the world premiere of Lifeguard, directed by Susan Muirhead, a new music video from Chicago’s popular rock band, The Lovehammers, and an interview with John McNaughton from D.P. Carlson’s Chicago Filmmakers on the Chicago River. All filmmakers will be in attendance on Tuesday, September 13th to present their film and take questions from the audience.
On Tuesday, September 13th, the pre-show reception begins at the Landmark Theater, 2828 North Clark, at 6 pm. Then join host Mike McNamara as our program begins promptly at 7:30 pm. High definition projection is made possible by Resolution Digital Studios, Fletcher Chicago and Chicago HD. Presenting the August lineup for The Midwest Independent Film Festival…
WORLD PREMIERE: FOLLOWING PAULA. Paula (played by Six Feet Under's Justina Machado) lives alone in a Chicago barrio, surrounded by gangs and drugs. She dreams of a better life by the sea. Marcus (Marcus Vaughn) drifts into her world after escaping his dysfunctional family and friends in upper class Los Angeles. Together, they try to accomplish what neither can alone. Paula is directed by Chicago native Ed Italo and was fully produced in Chicago.
WORLD PREMIERE: LIFEGUARD. Our Student Film of the Month comes from talented director Susan Muirhead. Lifeguard served as Muirhead’s graduate thesis film during her studies at Columbia College Chicago. Amanda is a lifeguard. She has been taught to save, but her gut tells her to protect herself as she is faced with overwhelming pressures from her family and ex-boyfriend. Lifeguard features beautiful cinematography from Michael Dunne and stars Chicago actors Allie Smith and Dan Flannery.
THE OUTLINE. Finding hope under seemingly hopeless circumstances. This piece was created by Chicago filmmakers Jeff Christian, John Mossman and Mark Bashore.
MUSIC VIDEO: EYES CAN’T SEE. This newly released music video was produced for Chicago rock stawarts The Lovehammers by Michael Leber and Chicago’s Stock Yard Productions. Eyes Can’t See features exclusive live footage of the band.
