First Tuesdays with The Midwest Independent Film Festival…

Repetition Receives Its Midwest Premiere!

On Tuesday, September 5th, The Midwest Independent Film Festival is honored to be presenting the Midwest Premiere of the dramatic feature, Repetition.  Director Zachary Zises, producer Eric Danson and lead actor Dan Waller as well as representative cast and crew will be in attendance for this premiere.

Repetition features some of the premier theatre actors in Chicago, including Guy Van Swearingen, Nicole Wiesner, Andy Rothenberg, Laura Jane Bailey, Doug McDade, Brad Armacost, Lance Baker and Dan Waller, whom reviewer Jeff Gorney of the Syracuse International Film and Video Festival calls “a joy to behold; quirky, instinctive, multidimensional, and totally affecting.”

Gorney goes on to call Repetition “revelatory!  Director Zachary Zises takes us on an adventurous exploration of sex and hunger, fear and desire, domination and submission. We take his word at every turn and he also strips each emotion down to its barest essential… a real original - humorous, insightful, raunchy, amorous, moving and richly realized.”

The Repetition production team includes Zises, Danson, cinematographer James Adkins, editor Tom Pastorelle and Mark R. Miller, who provides a captivating original score.

On Tuesday, September 5th, the Pre-Show Social, sponsored by Goose Island Brewing Company, begins at the Landmark Theater, 2828 North Clark, at 6 p.m.  Then join host Mike McNamara as the Midwest Premiere of Repetition begins promptly at 7:30 pm.  Projection services are provided by sponsors Resolution Digital Studios, Mimi Productions and Zacuto.  Post-screening reception will be held at Sausalito, 543 West Diversey. OPENING FILM: THE OUTLINE.  Jeff Christian, Mark Bashore and John Mossman, partners in the production company An Upright Monkey Insurrection, created this short film for the Chicago theatre, art and music festival Sketchbook, currently in its sixth season at The Chopin Theatre, curated by multi-media theatrical company Collaboration.  "The Outline," starring Miquela A. Cruz, is set against the crumbling background of a partially demolished housing project.

MIDWEST PREMIERE: REPETITION.  Directed by Zachary Zises, produced by Eric Danson.  Repetition follows the intersecting lives of four people teetering on the edge of emotional collapse.

Michael and Debbie are acting students called upon to connect, immediately and truthfully, to their emotions and to each other.  They fail miserably.  Beyond the classroom, their failures in the acting exercise are reflected, and repeated, in their numerous self-destructive consequences coping mechanisms.

Laura and David, while not acting students, are equally incapable of connection; Laura avoids people, and her emotions, by compulsively eating; David’s tactic is to descend into a comic book fantasy world.

They are each caught in self-destructive webs of repetitive behavior until a traumatic incident forces them all to confront their deepest fears of people, and themselves, and risk pain and humiliation to break through their barriers of loneliness and isolation.  Only then do they begin to see the light and potential power of human connection.
