First Tuesdays: 2018 Female Filmmakers Night

First Tuesdays with The Midwest Independent Film Festival presents its annual Female Filmmakers Night on Tuesday, August 7th at Landmark Century Centre Cinema, 2828 N. Clark beginning at 6 p.m. This year will also feature our inaugural Jury Prize, presented by our Jury of prominent women from the Chicago filmmaking community. 

Chaz Ebert, publisher of, will serve as Honorary Chair and present the award for the Jury-selected film. Other special guest Jurors include Erica Duffy from Camera Ambassador, Melissa Barany from VML, Jan Hiegglke from NewCity, Diane Quon from Kartemquin Films, Marina Killion from Optimus, Chakka Reeves from Free Spirit Media, and Orianna Oppice from Women in Film.

This year’s Female Filmmakers Night selections include: the U.S. PREMIER of STAGE FOUR, directed and written by Wendy Roderweiss, and starring Janelle Snow and David Pasquesi, taking a look at a 25-year marraige post-affair; the CHICAGO PREMIER of Kailyne R. Waters's animated short about a shopping cart's search for meaning, THE GO CART; Ashley S. Brandon's documentary short, MICKEY'S PETS, following a young woman through the competitive world of taxidermy; Stephanie Jeter's short, atmospheric thriller, SEARCHING FOR ISABELLE; Emma Keehan's experimental short OUROBOROS; the CHICAGO PREMIER of Miranda Johnson's animated short looking at fear and coping surrounding Macular Degeneration, DE-GENERATE; experimental short ATOMS OF ASHES directed by Maggie Scrantom; and the U.S. PREMIER of AS OF NOW, a short film examining partner violence on college campuses, written and directed by Moira Hamilton.

The line-up features films which address subject matter including Title IX, disabilities, violence against women, and women in traditionally male roles.

The evening will begin with our Producer's Panel, on which women from the film industry will discuss the landscape, representation, and career navigation in the post-MeToo era. The panel will feature Erica Duffy, Colette Ghunim, Chakka Reeves, and Pamela Sherrod Anderson, and will be moderated by journalist Kim Bellware. (See full bios below)
