First Tuesdays: Midwest Sci-Fi and Futurism Night!
The Midwest Independent Film Festival is thrilled to present our first-ever Sci-Fi and Futurism Night-- an evening of short films of chilling, not-too-far-away realities, technological frontiers, broader social themes explored through how we interact with science and technology, and even the intersection of sci-fi and horror.
The evening will include:
ABI, the story of scientist Vincent Forrester's biological computer prototype that could change the world but when a system virus infects his lab assistant, Abi, it could prove deadly. (Directed by Timothy Troy)
BODYMAN (EXPERIENCE REQUIRED), a story exploring the idea that, with the seemingly endless wave of gun violence in America, instead of asking ourselves how to stop it, we imagine what could happen if we don't. In this film's near-future setting, when gun deaths are an everyday occurrence, a displaced roadkill cleanup worker applies for the newly government mandated position. (Directed by Ryan R. Browne)
DISSIDENCE (2084), a film imagining the year 2084, in which a government worker chooses to go without his mandated phone. This begins to open his eyes, as he learns the consequences of speaking out against the surveillance state he is living in. (Directed by Matthew Brdlik)
RUBICON ROAD, a film about a couple trying to connect on a weekend getaway at a unique rental home tailored just for them. They discover some strings attached they weren't anticipating. The film explores the complications of privacy and technology in our consumer-centric world. (Directed by Ben Wolan)
The evening will open at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception on the top floor of the Landmark Century Cinema space (2828 N. Clark St.), followed by our signature Producers Panel at 6:30. This month's panel: Post-Production Master Class! “We’ll fix it in post,” said every filmmaker, ever. Learn from the experts how to avoid pitfalls, as well as actively plan, budget for, and manage the post production process. Our panel includes some of the industry’s top artists, who share tips on everything from editorial and color, through sound mix, score and deliverables for your film. The panel will feature Rose Razal (CRC), Tony Scott-Green (composer), C. Ryan Stemple (Periscope Post & Audio), and John Wong (Periscope Post & Audio).
A Q&A session with the filmmakers will immediately follow the 7:30 p.m. film screening, followed by an afterparty at Avenue Tavern (2916 N. Broadway).
