The Midwest Independent Film Festival will host the MIDWEST PREMIERE of TWO IN THE BUSH: A LOVE STORY, an unconventional romantic comedy from filmmaker Laura Madalinski, as part of the festival’s First Tuesdays screening series.

The film takes a wise and witty look at the world of relationships, bisexuality, and polyamory, through the story of Emily, who, after losing her job, arrives home early from work to find her girlfriend in bed with someone else. Moving in with her best friend to grieve and heal, Emily lands a new gig working for a dominatrix, and becomes involved with both her new boss, and her boss’s boyfriend.

Of the film, Madalinski says, “This film is for the queer community, for the sex worker community, and for the polyamorous and non-monogamous communities because we need, and deserve, love stories… I hope that it echoes their experience, that it gives them hope for their own happy ending, and that it makes them feel less alone in the world.”

Co-written by Madalinski and partner Kelly Haas, the film was made entirely in Chicago and features Chicago actors Sarah Mitchell, Travis Delgado, Caitlin AaseMelissa DuPrey, and Daniel McEvilly. A Q&A with the filmmaker and cast will immediately follow the screening.

The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. with a cocktial reception on the top floor of the Landmark space, followed by our signature Producers Panel at 6:30.

This month, the panel, "The New SAG-AFTRA Low Budget Film Contracts: Everything You Need to Know Now," will focus on the significant changes to the SAG-AFTRA contracts this summer that impact the budget, timeline, and scope of all independent film projects. We invite producers and filmmakers to learn from the best, quickly and efficiently, in this special Producers Panel. Forty-five minutes of face-to-face access with the experts-- SAG-AFTRA staff and member-elected volunteer leaders-- who can help filmmakers make content on-time, on-budget, with professional SAG-AFTRA talent, now. Admission to the Producers Panel is complimentary with a screening ticket.
